The Cycle of Aliveness

The core Open World practice is a 3hr session which takes players through a full cycle of aliveness.

Phase 01 & 2 :
Essence & Embodiment

Warm-up

The first hour of the ‘Cycle of Aliveness‘ is a warm-up session to prepare for Scenework.

We first focus on internal awareness through meditation and breathwork.

We then advance to movement and expression.

Activities include:

  • Learning to scan our internal ‘energy body’
  • Breathwork and stretching
  • Soothing nervous system through meditation and soundscapes
  • Playfighting
  • Massage and Playchi
  • Improving relationship with your own body

Phase 03: Social

Scenework (OPEN)

SCENEWORK (Open): This is the culmination of all Open World skills. We explore the possibilities of humans in space together. The personal, the energetic, the stories, the social patterns and the instincts of interaction.

If you want to truly level up how you engage in ANY social situation – step into the Arena!

Activities include:

  • Sensing the unspoken offers in an encounter
  • Releasing fake social habits of politeness
  • Increasing courage to stay true to yourself
  • Identifying the timing and flow of a ‘scene’
Scenework (Intermediate)

SCENEWORK (Intermediate): We evolve our Scenework practice by focusing on sincere acts of devotional art.

Can we sense the potent moments of magic in the room and truly open our hearts through meaningful expression? Can we get out of our own way and act with reverence. Do we have the capacity to display our loving truth?

Activities include:

  • Authenticity in performance
  • Mythology and poetics of the human experience
  • Defining our purpose work
Scenework (Advanced)

SCENEWORK (Advanced): Once players have cultivated a solid foundation in Scenework; able to navigate interactions which span from personal experiences, to archetypal / transperonal work and flowstate artistry, we advanced to ‘Metascenes‘ which incorporate all possibilities without any rules or imposed direction.

Activities include:

  • Longform improvisation
  • Mastery of scene flow
  • State-shifting between identities and forms of interaction
  • Chaos clowning

Phase 04 & 05: Artistic & Sacred

Why are we removing all the blocks from our ability to express? While there are many therapeutic benefits to Open World, it is not therapy.

We are simply curious to witness human beings in their natural state of play.

Once the inhibitions and social programming soften we find the natural human response is very artistic and sacred.

OWT Create

Creative sessions include:

OWT SPOKEN: We connect to our voice through a freestyle jam. Learning stage craft to become an engaging speaker – developing both word play and vocal strength.

OWT Spoken is great for public speakers, teachers, storytellers, vocalists and anyone wanting to experience free flow of words and sounds.

Activities include:

  • Freestyle rhyming
  • Vocal layering and group harmonies
  • Presenting and storytelling skills
OWT Fit

OWT FIT: This session continues our expression through character and costume.

We look at the psychology of playing roles, the physicality of moving as another, the digital avatar of your online presence and the mask and costume of the character you are developing.

Activities include:

  • Improvisation
  • Physical theatre / character embodiment
  • Maskwork
  • Wearable art / costumery

OWT TAKES: An art sharing and review night. Focused on filmwork, but also welcoming other creative forms, which are aligned with the Open World aesthetic and approach.

We create love notes to humanity. We capture moments of real human interaction and use art to frame the everyday as sacred.

Activities include:

  • Watching art films
  • Show & Tell prototypes of artworks
  • VJ performances
  • Discussions of the Open World philosophy around creativity

OWT REACH: An interaction design session in which we experiment with new ways to facilitate human connection.

This work is advanced and highly creative, breaking social conditioning and extending the parameters on how people communicate and relate with their environment.

Activities include:

  • Interface design, (analogue and digital)
  • Installation art
  • Social experiments
  • Sensory play

Testimonials

“What I’m looking for, in whatever I do in life, is to feel like this!”

J.K.

“I felt held, seen, vulnerable, challenged and bid to rise. One foot in the doorway of profundity and one on the lap of the ridiculous, he is a worthy wayfarer who will bring you home.”

M.L.

“The amount of knowledge base that he possesses and embodies in martial arts, theatre, spirituality, and the body makes me feel like I am working with an expert whom I can trust, which is a relief in a day and age where anyone can run a workshop and call themselves experts.”

H.W.

“Through Atlas’ Open World sessions I have experienced moments of true catharsis, moments of ecstatic bliss, moments of relief, moments of true surrender… and had profound realisations about the world and the way I am showing up in it. I genuinely think that this could change the world… and I think it will.”
